Events

Westminster Presbyterian Church is a community where warm smiles and acceptance go well beyond Sunday worship. Throughout the year we hold several events that take us out of the standard church environment and allow us to get better acquainted with the people across the pews in a more casual environment. Here are a few examples.

Easter Breakfast

Adding to the celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus, on Easter Sunday a free breakfast of ham, potatoes, vegetables, and various desserts is served before service.

The Chili Cook Off

Once a year, usually in January, members of Westminster put on their chef hats for a friendly cooking competition. This tasty, popular event takes place after one of the Sunday services and all in attendance are encouraged to stay, sample each chili, then vote for your favorite. While the votes are being tallied, grab a bowl and fill up with the chili you liked the best.

Hot Diggity Dog

Several times throughout the summer months, we hold a hot dog cookout on the lawn of our church. It’s a chance to mingle with our neighbors, share stories and enjoy a nice summer picnic.

Chocolate Sunday

Again, once a year, usually in February, church attendees are encouraged to bring chocolate (either homemade or store bought) to share with everyone after the service. Chocolate lovers will not want to miss this casual social opportunity. Whether it’s cookies, cakes, brownies, candy bars, milk chocolate or dark, this event satisfies those with a sweet tooth and gives our church community another occasion to get to know each other outside of a church setting.

Soup for Ash Wednesday

To start off the season of Lent, a meal of vegetable soup and bread is offered for those who would like to stay after the service.

Christmas Children’s Program & Dinner

One Sunday in December, our annual children’s Christmas program is performed in place of the weekly sermon. After worship, we encourage all to stay for a delicious potluck feast with the meat, potatoes, main vegetable and dressing/bread prepared by members of Westminster’s W.O.W. committee.

Blessing of the Animals

We’re blessed every Sunday at church, but what about our four-legged and feathered friends? This annual event is for the pets. It’s a unique outdoor event designed especially for our furry companions. And while the guests of honor may not recognize the importance, it’s comforting for the pet owners to know that the animals are God’s children as well.
